Karmann Mobil Colorado RS

Karmann-Mobil Colorado RS is now in the UK

Karmann Mobil has set the first world speed record for a coachbuilt motorhome with its Volkswagen T5/Al-Ko
Colorado Ti RS.

The speed tests took place at the famous Nüburgring circuit
in Germany, with professional racing driver Frank Diefenbacher at the wheel. The modified motorhome was capable of achieving 124.3 mph, but heavy rain made driving conditions very difficult and Frank was only able to achieve 106.2 mph- this was enough to set the first world record.

A second attempt at the world record was completed at
the Eurospeedway Lausitz, on the 16th August 2006. This
time it was faster, with the motorhome achieving a top speed
of 124 mph.

Some modifications were made to the van, such as the standard 174 HP VW engine was tuned to 340 HP, while the chassis has been lowered and adapted for circuit conditions. Also the body has been made more aero dynamical. The frame, the superstructure and the brakes remained unchanged, as this demonstrated the high specification which comes as standard on all Karmann-Mobil motorhomes.

The record has a number of elements which need to be completed - The vehicle holds the road at a high speed, there is a brake test at 100 km/ h and a slalom drive must be taken as well. At the same time a normal Karmann-Mobil Colorado also underwent the same test to demonstrate the differences and also to highlight the quality that comes as standard on the motorhomes.

The Karmann Mobil Colorado RS motorhome is now in the UK and will be on view at Geoff Cox Motorhomes, our dealer in the midlands. Please contact us for details.
